Chris Dalby & Greg McManus again opened for Headingley Bramhope as Meanwood opened their attack with Mike Armstrong & Adam Copeland, again Chris & Greg gave HBCC a good start, the bowlers asked plenty of questions of the batsman, but with a quick outfield the ball was finding the boundary at regular intervals, they took the score to 96 before Chris was the first to fall, caught by Littleton off the bowling of Ronan Melody for 41.
Jitesh Panmani joined McManus in the middle and rather signalled his intent with six of his first eight scoring shot’s being 6s, whilst Jitesh was threatening the windows of all the local houses Greg was still ticking along and reached a well deserved first 50 for the club before being bowled by Jack Booth. The incoming Dave Ward continued his good start to the season as Jitesh continued to wreak havoc reaching his first 1st XI 50 in 12 scoring shots, Jitesh & Dave put on 82 in just 6 overs before Jitesh fell for 96 caught by Armstrong off the bowling of Hallas. Jitesh hitting 9x6 & 9x4.
Matt Frosdick joined Dave Ward in the middle and was dismayed to see a crisp drive grasped by the outstretched hand of the bowler Adam Copeland to send him back for 5, James Dalby entered the fray and he carried on with his fine recent displays mixing up some big hits, with some aggressive running which kept the scoreboard rattling along, James hitting 4x4 & 2x6 in a quickfire 32 before being caught by Melody off Copeland.
Matty Williams joined Dave for the final over and didn’t waste any time before dispatching a ball over the trees, Matt finishing 9*, Dave Ward finished with an excellent 47^ including 6x4 & 1x6 as Headingley Bramhope finished with 301-5.
Mike Armstrong & Howard Collier opened Meanwood’s reply against Mark Stelfox & Venkatesh Iyer, the HBCC pair tried to keep things tight from the off and force the Meanwood batsmen to take chances, it wasn’t until the 8th over that the breakthrough came when Iyer had Armstrong caught by the big paws of the diving Williams for 18, the flip side of the breakthrough was it brought the dangerous Adam Copeland to the wicket and Copeland & Collier got the scoreboard ticking over a little quicker for Meanwood before Iyer claimed his 2nd victim when Collier was well caught by Jitesh Pamnani for 15.
steve gilks & John Myers replaced Stelfox & Iyer who had taken 0-32 & 2-59 respectively off their 12 overs, Jake Littleton had looked in good form before being caught by Frosdick off Gilks for 20. Home skipper Mike Smythe joined Copeland in the middle and together they led the Meanwood charge putting on 88 before Smythe was caught by Jitesh off the bowling of Chris Dalby for 36, Adam Copeland finally fell to a good low catch by Chris Dalby off the bowling of steve gilks for an excellent 96. Matthew Lambert was the last wicket to fall again off the bowling of Chris Dalby, this time assisted by a decent catch by John Myers for 13. Zeeshan Ali was 24* and David Gill 0* at the close as Meanwood finished on 255-6.
A good win in a high scoring, well contested game played in a good spirit.
