A Kodak Moment

Wanderers up and running as they pick up first point of the season.

Hounslow Wanderers picked up their first point of the season in a hard fought and evenly contested match against last seasons runners up Kodak Harrow in the Middlesex County League Division One fixture.

Following two successive defeats the young Wanderers team played a strong Kodak team and goal scorer Raffi Andar said after the game “they still had many of their players from when they last played in the premier division two seasons ago, so it was no surprise to us that they went into this game with a 100% record having won their first two matches of the season. This result shows the belief in our new young squad and we will be looking to pick up more points in our upcoming games”.

The Purple Haze started the brighter of the two and nearly went ahead on four minutes when Yasaar Bardurkhan went around the Kodak keeper only for his shot being cleared by a defender. Wanderers continued to create opportunities and picked up a penalty for handball in the twentieth minute, Raffi Andar stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to put the homeside up 1-0.

This woke up Kodak and the side from Harrow then had a period on intense pressure with an onslaught on the Wanderers defence. Stand in goalkeeper Spencer Mitchell made some handy saves and a combination of last ditch defending and a couple of shots cleared off the line kept the score at 1-0. Unfortunately ten minutes before the break a Mitchell throw out led to the Kodak forward pouncing onto the loose ball leaving him to slot home for an easy equaliser.

The second half show the introduction of Tamin Almani from the bench and within minutes of coming on the super sub’s quick thinking led to the purple haze taking the lead on the hour. After being awarded a corner the sharp eyed striker saw the keeper off his line and without hesitate he cured in the corner kick directly into the goal to make it 2-1. Wanderers looked good for the points until in the eighty fifth minute when a Kodak cross was only half cleared leaving the oncoming player a running header which he placed into the top corner to equalise.
