Last regular fixture of the season

With only Easter Sunday and tour weekend left of the season, Market Harborough finished off their regular Sunday fixtures with a trip over to Old Laurentians.

From the whistle Market Harborough found themselves on the attack and good pressure play lead to a penalty right in front of the posts. The kick was taken by Mrytnek putting the first points on the scoreboard (0-3).

After a period of more equal play Harborough showed their ever increasing confidence and put a good passage of play together which resulted in a try by Punter on the wing, moving the score to 0-8.

Some committed defence, turn over and good placement kick found Harborough moving up the pitch near the try line. Again good passing along the line saw Garner score in the far corner converted by Van Amersfoort 0-15.

Not to be out done, a few minutes later Old Laurentians showed the strength of their forwards effectively mauling the ball over the try line to score their first points but failed to kick the conversion 5-15.

Frequent rotations of positions within the Harborough squad challenged the team to keep focused but the whole team kept the intensity high. After a period of play with the ball being passed through almost all the team Westaway scuttled over and Van Amersfoort converted 5-22.

At half time the whistle blew with the score at 5-22.

Due to limited numbers our hosts requested a loan of a player and Harborough obliged – thanks to Van Amersfoort and Punter for wearing the green shirt for a while.

Back on it straight from whistle Harborough scored again through a try by Gorry making the score 5-27. Not to be beaten Old Laurentians stayed strong both physically and mentally and grasped a try and conversion themselves. With their players working better together a third try followed swiftly after bringing the score a bit closer at 19-27.

With this Harborough upped their game again with Laurenti crossing the white wash, converted by Van Amersfoort 19-34.

As the game drew towards the end Harborough did not rest on their laurels and through constant pressure and changing direction of attack opened up the gap for Pope to cross the try line.

The final whistle brought the game to an end with the score standing 19-39. We thank Old Laurentians for a game played in great rugby spirit.

Market Harborough u15s have finished their season on a high and look forward to a tour to Sale in two weeks time.
