After a few weeks of no training or games we wondered how rusty the boys would be today. Playing 8 a side with Josh and Ben T joining Liverpool for the first half we started off as expected! Whilst the first chances of the game came to us the basic rule of shoot low and on target was interpreted as high and off target as we wasted a couple of early openings. Liverpool didn't, as we soon found ourselves 2-0 down and it was the early wake up call that we needed. We weren't able to string many passes together but a couple of good finishes from Matt and Luke saw us level the qtr.
The 2nd qtr saw some (marginal!) improvement as we traded goals to 3-3 before a couple just before the half time saw us into a 5-3 lead. There was no doubt about who was the happier coach as we had struggled to gain any rhythm and the passing was nowhere near the quality it should have been.
With Sam and Joe K swapped onto Liverpool for the 2nd half the message to our boys was simple - improve! The tempo was much better in the 3rd qtr and a few long range efforts from Ben T and the extra pass to pick out Tom saw us score 7 unanswered as we stretched it to 12-3. Liverpool didn't let their heads go down and they have some capable players who kept posession well and kept our defenders on their toes. The final qtr saw us play our best team lacrosse of the morning as the goals were now coming from multiple passing moves and good finishing as we scored another 5 and conceded 1 to win 17-4.
An enjoyable game on a beautiful sunny morning and despite the final scoreline it was a competitive game throughout played in a good spirit.
