Blues suffer away defeat

SWINDON SUPERMARINE 1 v MET POLICE 0

An enforced team change with Bayley Mummery having to withdraw due to a recurring knee injury tweaked during the warm up was not a good start for the Met. With Mikel Platt stepping up to start the game a change in the original formation plan was also necessary. Nevertheless Met started well with Ethan Chislett just wide with a chance after 5 minutes. Ten minutes later Max Blackmore was forced to hurry a shot which just cleared the bar. With the Met dominating play Jon Hippolyte was causing all sorts of problems with his pace down the right wing. A nasty mid air clash of heads saw Luke Robertson and Calvin Disley receive extensive treatment with Disley finally emerging with a significant bandage and a new No 18 shirt. The delay affected the tempo of the game but right on the stroke of half time Marine had their first shot on target comfortably held by a diving Bertie Schotterl.
The second half began in what Met followers have come to expect – a give away goal inside the first two minutes of restart when a harmless ball punted down the middle resulted in a mix up between Ollie Robinson and his goalie allowing Williams to stick out a foot to guide the ball over the advancing Schotterl and into the net for his first goal for Marine and a 1-0 lead. Marine then clearly had the better of things until 56 minutes when a change in formation with Ollie Knight replacing Mikel Platt saw Met regain their domination foe a 15 minute spell during which a cross from Knight was deflected for what looked a certain own goal only to be cleared off the line by a last ditch defending boot. Try as they may Met could not break down a very experienced and resolute back line for Marine who overall had the better of the second half. Not a game Met deserved to lose and so a very disappointing result as a culmination to a period of successive away games
