Windermere 9 – 6 Millom
By Ryan Carter
Windermere just managed to edge out Millom in what proved to be a real game of attrition.
The conditions and both defensive formations dictated proceedings so that free flowing rugby was at a premium. Millom were on the front foot during the opening exchanges and were unable to make the most of the pressure turning round at the break with a slender 6-3 lead. The second half was played in much the same fashion as the first. Windermere had three yellow cards due to ill discipline at the breakdown, whilst Millom had two players sent to the sin bin for dangerous tackles. Windermere looked at their most dangerous when on the counter attack and 2 sweetly struck second half penalties earned the hosts a hard fought victory as scoring opportunities were hard to come by.
