Millom See Off Penrith
By Ryan Carter
MILLOM returned to winning ways with a well-deserved Cumbria League victory over Penrith at Wilson Park.
Opting to play against the wind in the first half, Millom soon tested the visitors’ defence through their forwards.
Penrith gave away several early penalties in and around the ruck area and Hugh Sweeney
slotted one over to give Millom a lead that would never be surrendered.
Continued pressure from the hosts saw Craig Mounsey
scoot over the whitewash for the opening try.
But cheap turnover ball enabled Penrith to quickly counter attack and score in the corner.
Millom soon put an end to Penrith’s ambitions though, after a flowing move saw centre Steven Rogers score.
The second half was a similar story to the first as Millom continued to dominate possession, with full-back John Falconer
going over and Ian Cummings
scoring two touch downs with Penrith add-ing well taken drop goal.
Millom’s man-of-the-match was awarded to Falconer who stepped up to full-back in the absence of Doug Jardine.
