Because of players not letting us know that they were not available we only had 13 players last Saturday.
Linley, hearing that we only had 13 players gave us two players initially and one more during the game who replaced one of our injured players. One of the down sides of this league rugby is a lot of teams are reluctant to lend players but it was nice to see that Linley have the true spirit of rugby which enabled everyone to have a game and I’m full of praise for what they did.
We knew we were going to have a hard battle with the forwards as Linley had a far bigger pack but our strengths lie with our backs who were younger and faster. The first try came within 5 minutes when Kyle Clark took the ball on the wing well in our half and used his speed to score a good individual try, Tatie converted.
Linley then scored 2 converted tries using the power of their forwards and then a further unconverted try. Gregsie replied with a typical forwards try which was converted.
During this first half our forwards did not get into an arm wrestle with their forwards but managed to win some quick ball which Tatie used with long accurate passes to Andrew Stokes, which was a new successful combination.
Score at half time Linley 19-Northwich 14.
The second half we started to play with more confidence and belief and Lamby scored the next try. He had a very impressive game at number 8. The next try came again from Kyle who received it on the wing and used his blistering pace to score, converted by Tatie. By this time Northwich moved up another gear and applied a lot of pressure on Linley which resulted in Nathan scoring an excellent try. The last converted try of the game came from Linley.
It must be pointed out that Northwich’s tackling was superb especially seeing the size of some of Linley’s players.
It was an excellent performance by Northwich, everybody put a shift in, including the borrowed Linley players and it was impossible to select a man of the match so it went to the whole team.
