SQUAD NEWS: Four Contracted Players to Return

By Adam Etheridge

With a number of new signings announced, Jimmy Ginnelly’s Nuneaton Borough squad will look vastly different this season.

There will still be some familiar faces however. Rhys Sharpe agreed terms to return last week and he will be joined by four contracted players from last season; Miles Addison, Cam Belford, Devon Kelly-Evans and Curtis Obeng.

Captain Cam Belford, who joined in August last year, made 42 appearances, contributing one assist and numerous highlight reel saves. "We all know about the disappointment of last season” said Belford, continuing “but this forthcoming season is a chance to right a few wrongs, rebuild as a whole, both on and off the pitch, and put some smiles back on the faces of our incredible fans. They’ve stuck by this Club through thick and thin and we all want to give them something back, whilst giving the town a Club they can be proud of once again.”

Addison, a former England youth international, made 36 appearances for the Boro’ last season, scoring four goals and contributing two assists. It was a trademark Addison header that snatched a point for 10 man Boro’ away to league champions Stockport County, a rare high point, as the visitors escaped with a 2-2 draw. The powerful centre-half returns for the final year of his two year deal, having won the Player’s Player of the Year Award for 2018/19.

Former Coventry City midfielder Kelly-Evans started the season carrying a niggling injury, but still managed to make 38 appearances, demonstrating versatility by playing in several different positions and improving as the season wore on, ending the year with a couple of Man of the Match performances. Right back Obeng made 40 appearances and chipped in with five assists. The pacey defender was instrumental with the 4-0 demolition of FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park in March.
