Our U6s having a team talk during the 2015/16 season!

Welcome to the Whitgiftians Junior Rugby U6s Team Page!

Welcome to Whitgiftians Under 6s Junior Rugby. We are really pleased to have you and your little person on board for the new season!

Our Under 6 team trains every Sunday from 10am to 11.00am and plays Tag Rugby, the non-contact form of Rugby. Our emphasis is on fun and small sided games designed to help players develop the skills they will need to play Rugby as they get older. Each week we start with a warm up before playing a range of passing and evasion games. We try our best not to subject the children to Rugby ‘drills’ and our emphasis is on fun and enjoyment as we want the children to really get the Rugby bug!
Each week we award trophies for Best Player and Best Listener. These trophies can be brought home by the player for the week and used for ‘show and tell’ at school. Please ensure they are returned to a coach or to a parent who is attending the next training session or there will be disappointed children the following week!
Please note that we train every Sunday in-between the two main pitches, next to the Club house.
Each Sunday players should have:
1. Trainers when the ground is dry/hard and boots when it is softer
2. Tracksuit bottoms in the winter (shorts are fine when it is warmer)
3. Three layers of clothing on top - this can be removed if hot
4. Water proof jacket when wet
5. Hat and gloves when cold or wet – it is a winter sport!
6. A bottle of water or juice and any snacks you feel are appropriate
We aim to offer a fun family environment for children to train and play matches in. Our coaching is provided by qualified coaches who have been screened for their suitability for working with young people. This year our coaches will be:
Nick Somers, Nick Karelis, Sam Barriball, Kevin Grant, Mo Haque, Keith Yeoman, Nick Crocker, Mark Rochford.
We also have two Team Managers this year called Natalie Grant and Tracy Chery-Nicolls, who are there to assist with any questions and also help the coaches with logistics when it comes to Festivals and Social events!
All of the lead coaches have undertaken the required coaching courses and a number have taken more advanced courses. Every coach undergoes DBS checks for child protection purposes. The club is on Sport England’s and the Rugby Football Union’s Seal of Approval programme, which has strict criteria as to: playing programme; safeguarding and protecting children; sports equity and ethics and club management.
