Percy Main 4 Seaton Delaval 1
A good 3 points.....
Following a 2-1 defeat at Seaton Delaval's Wheatridge Park ground a fortnight ago, Percy Main gained quick revenge, thanks mainly to an impressive hat trick from Paul Collinson and a sterling team performance, particularly in the second half which deservedly earned The Main the points.
Collinson has made a major difference to the Main's attack and has struck 8 goals in just 5 games since his return to the club from FC United of Newcastle, a run which has coincided with just 2 defeats for the club during the opening months of 2019.
Team manager Steve Hurd was forced into making 6 changes to the starting eleven of the side which had gone down in the earlier game against today's opponents, mainly due to unavailability but those who turned out gave a good account of themselves and deserved the plaudits at the final whistle.
It was the visitors who threatened first as Paul Blackett sent a shot just last the post, but Ryan Nelson in the Delaval goal was definitely the busier as he dealt with efforts from Jack Armstrong and Collinson, following a defence splitting ball from Ian Dunn, but the deadlock was broken on the quarter hour mark as Collinson cleverly engineered space for himself on the bye line and somehow squeezed the ball home from an acute angle to give Percy Main the lead.
The goal spurred Seaton Delaval as Layton Bruce fired a shot from distance which was too high and Andy Carr rattled the crossbar, but parity was restored on 23 minutes as Jamie Hanson played in Blackett who was upended just outside the area and Blackett himself stepped up to fire home the free kick which seemed to deceive all.
Collinson twice threatened towards the end of the first half, but put The Main back in front a minute after the interval with the goal of the game as Mark McDonnell centred and Collinson volleyed home in spectacular fashion to give Nelson no chance.
McDonnell who again had a great game in the home side's midfield turned provider once more for Collinson to make it 3-1 on 55 minutes and then got on the scoresheet himself as Armstrong hit the post and McDonnell was well placed to turn in the rebound for number 4 of the afternoon.
Chances were few and far during the latter stages of the game with only Armstrong again for The Main and Delaval's goal scorer Blackett making noteworthy efforts on goal.
Percy Main are away to North Shields Athletic (on the 4G) next Saturday. 2:30 kick off.....
