Walden lift Cup after emphatic win against Wisbech

Great display of attacking rugby to round off a good season.

Wisbech had the wind advantage in the first half and were quick out of the blocks playing with determination and commitment. Keeping the ball close to their strong pack they forced the ball up field and scored an early try to go 7 points up.
Gradually Walden started to string some phases together but final passes went astray or balls knocked on which prevented them from getting on the score board for the first quarter.
Eventually a good inside pass saw centre George Menhinink through a gap in the defence to level the scores.
Straight from the kick off No8 Brad Baker caught the ball and used his power and strength to fend off a couple of tackles to score a great try to put Walden ahead.
Then a few minutes later hooker Sam Butler received the ball on half way and with a couple of side steps he out paced the defence to score under the posts.
A fine run by right winger Ben Stapleton who with only the full back to beat put Baker over for his second to leave the half time score at 28 -7.
Now with the elements in their favour and Wisbech having to play a couple of players out of position after a couple of minor injuries Walden scored 3 early second half tries with flanker Will McGinn, second row Chris Parry and centre Adam Clark all going over 45 – 7.
Wisbech kept going and scored their second with some phases close to the Walden try line before eventually diving over to score. 45 – 12.
4 more unanswered tries as Wisbech tired with left winger Paul Marshall, sub flanker Alex Packenham-Walsh, Baker scoring his third and rounded off with Sub Hooker Sam Eardley all crossing the line.
Wisbech to their great credit did not give up and fittingly having scored the first try of the game also scored the last to leave the final score 73 -19.
