GIRLS ARE RECRUITING!

Welcome to the homepage for the 'Sheffield Swans' - the Girls Section of Sheffield RUFC.
For girls in school years 7-13.

TRY US OUT
To try rugby simply come down to one of our training sessions - usually 18.00-19.30 on Thursdays at Abbeydale Park, but over the summer we are at Castle Dyke playing fields.
Be sure to check the calendar page for any changes to time/place or cancellation.

JOIN
Joining is a two stage process.
First, join this website to get training times and messages direct via the app or email - HERE.
Second, follow this link to register the player and yourself as parent/guardian on the RFU’s Game Management System (GMS) - Under RFU Regulations 15, your child is not permitted to train or play matches once a 41 day trial period has been completed and they are not registered with the RFU.

The process involves the adult creating a GMS profile for themself, then within their profile creating a profile for the youth player.
The final step is Registering the player to Sheffield RUFC (blue rose icon).

Registering with the club on GMS is taken as an indication that the player will join Sheffield RUFC and Abbeydale Sports Club as member.

As the website is open to the public, the club send certain members-only messages are sent as email via the RFU’s GMS system.

ABOUT THE SWANS
While girls rugby is the fastest growing sector of our sport, the fact that many girls don’t start playing util they are at secondary school means there is often an uneven spread of players at any given age.
So girls teams are largely grouped by dual age bands, based on standard school years:
U12 (Y7)
U14 (Y8+9)
U16 (Y10+11)
U18 (Y12+13)
We tend to train the all girls together so they remain in touch with friends while they move through the age bands.
The U18s will also train with the women’s development team - the Roses.
Most of our Thursday night training is delivered by former and current players from the women’s teams.
On Sundays we play and train as part of the ’North Derbyshire Girls’ cluster of clubs, centred on Chesterfield RUFC, to ensure we have good numbers on match days.
And given that the majority of girls join us during their secondary school years, we have a good track record of training novice players ‘from scratch’ - so when we say ‘all abilities welcome’, we mean it!
