Dynamo hunting for Wulfs win

By Shepshed Newsdesk

Shepshed Dynamo are seeking a fourth home win in succession on Saturday afternoon as AFC Wulfrunians visit The Dovecote (3pm kick-off).

Fifth-placed Dynamo have won in each of their last three games in front of their own supporters, defeating Sporting Khalsa (2-1), Dunkirk (2-1) and Westfields (2-0). They will look to build on last week’s creditable 1-1 draw away to Worcester City by securing a fourth consecutive home victory in this match, and will fancy their chances of doing so against a Wulfrunians team that are on a barren run.

The Wulfs, currently 8th in the Midland Football League table, are on a run of four successive defeats, with their last win coming away to Coventry Sphinx (1-0) at the beginning of the month. Since then, they have lost away to Stourport Swifts and Lye Town (1-3), whilst also suffering home defeats to Worcester (2-3) and league leaders Ilkeston Town (1-3).

When the sides met in the reverse fixture in September, Shepshed ran out 1-0 winners in an evenly-matched affair with Sam Moore netting the decisive goal as a second-half substitute. With there not being much difference between the two sides on that day, or in the current league table, one suspects this match will be as equally competitive, but the hosts have to be considered the favourites on the basis of recent form.

Dynamo’s prospects of victory will, in all likelihood, be heavily contingent on in-form striker Jordan Wilson, industrious midfielder Niall Prenderville and experienced central defender Jake Betts. They will have to be wary of Jake Webb, who is Wulfrunians’s top scorer this season having netted 11 goals thus far.

Did you know? Erstwhile Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Jon Purdie made one substitute appearance for Wulfrunians in 2013 whilst managing the club in the West Midlands Regional League.
