Stamford made the 200 plus trek to Morpeth looking to build on the win over Tadcaster in the previous game.
The home side started brightly, and Sean Taylor should have done better with his shot in the opening minutes, but his effort did not trouble Dan Haystead. This was followed up with Jack Foalle putting his effort over the bar. In between these efforts Greg Smith had an effort but again not troubling the Morpeth goal.
Morpeth midfielder Ben Sayer then put his shot over the bar after a cross in the box was only partially cleared.
After this initial flurry of activity, the game settled into and midfield battle with neither side carving out clear cut chances for themselves.
As half time approached, Joe Burgess let fly with a shot, but this was blocked by the Morpeth defence.
Stamford started the second half brightly forcing a couple of corners but without creating anything clear cut.
Morpeth also looked for opening but the Daniels defence backed up by the midfield kept the highwaymen out and never really looked at troubling Dan Haystead.
The only goal of the came after 72 minutes. A throw in from the left the ball came to David Carson whose shot was blocked and as Daniels tried to clear the ball ricocheted into the path of Ben Sayer who let fly with a shot from 20 yards and the ball flew past Haystead into the top corner of the net.
Stamford pushed for an equaliser and almost grabbed a spectacular equaliser with seven minutes remaining. Josh Egginton played a free-kick short to Ollie Brown-Hill and the Daniels forward unleased a shot from more than 25 yards which the Morpeth keeper Dan Lowson managed to tip onto the cross-bar and a defender cleared at the expense of a corner.
The Daniels kept pressing but the Morpeth back line managed to snuff out any danger to gain the 3 points and put them within touching distance of the title.
One moment to note was youth team player Liam Taylor coming on to make his debut for the first team with ten minutes remaining replacing captain Jake Duffy.
