Ladies 2nds host Sheffield University.

Hard work not rewarded.

This week Thirsk 2nds played hosts to Sheffield University Bankers 2nds. The first half was an even affair with both teams unable to take their chances. Molly had another good game on the right with her defending and aerial free hits causing Sheffield problems. Lucy made some excellent runs through the midfield which the Sheffield players struggled to keep pace with. The half finishing 0-0.
In the second half Sheffield started the brighter pressing Thirsk back. However Thirsk were unfortunate to concede a short corner from which the away team opened the scoring. Thirsk continued their pressing game and managed a deserved equaliser after passes in midfield led to a shot at goal the keeper saved but Tilly followed up and flicked the ball into the net. The Sheffield goalkeeper was kept busy having to make several saves from the Thirsk forwards in particular Hannah and Tilly, running through on goal. Sheffield managed to score a second goal, again from a short corner, which was flicked over Chelsea in goal, after the initial strike was saved. Thirsk had a final excellent attempt to equalise with a powerful strike from Fern which would have flown into the top of the net but for the Sheffield goalkeepers flying save. The final score was a 2-1 defeat for Thirsk.
Player of the match was awarded to Hannah B for her excellent running in attack.

Where next?

Ladies 2nds away in Huddersfield. A journey that added much to a positive goal difference.
Another strong performance from men's thirds. Some games cancelled for frost but York had cleared the snow off the pitch.
