Season Update

By Tim Lamb

A positive start ..........

All our senior and junior teams have a few games under their belts now and it's been a great start to the season. The club's efforts in growing the youth section over the last few years are now really starting to pay dividends and I have no doubt will be a big part of securing the long term future of the club. We now have several of our under 16 age group appearing regularly in our senior league teams and Sunday side and their commitment and ability is outstanding. All are contributing with both bat and ball and have integrated with their more senior counterparts. I'm proud of how well our senior teams welcome in the junior players, support and advise them, as it's this kind of friendly welcome which will ensure they keep coming back to play cricket and hopefully keep coming back to Thorley CC.

Both senior league sides are holding their own in their respective leagues and have wins under their belts. We've also had a couple of new senior players join the club this year and we also have a lady helping out with the junior coaching which is a great positive for the club.

We plan to run some ladies softball games this year and the junior teams have games coming thick and fast now.

All of the above happens because of all the hard work that the committee and members put in and the continued support we get from spouses and junior parents. Everyone's support is greatly appreciated.

Don't forget that Club Day is on Sunday July 7th and we hope to see as many of you there as possible for what is always a really enjoyable day and a great fund raiser for the club.

Finally a brief update on the new club house. We now have an architect on board and we are very close to agreeing the final plan for what we want the club house to look like and incorporate. This will mean we can move on to the next phase of budgeting the build and then seeking funding opportunities with the likes of the ECB and Sport England. There are however hundreds of funding opportunities out there so please do let us know if you know or hear of one as even smaller amounts all help towards the target.

I hope everyone keeps enjoying their cricket whether they are playing or supporting, enjoy the summer.

Cheers

Chairman Tim
