Thorley u11 terriers began the season with a win against Fyfield at the Thorley Oval this bank holiday Monday.
The visitors batted first and some fine accurate and controlled bowling from all the boys kept the total to a very achievable 177. The pick of the bowlers being Liam, Adam and Charlie who all collected three wickets. Some fine wicket keeping from Isaac helped out the bowlers with 4 stumpings and and a catch.
In reply the Thorley terriers achieved their aim of restricting the number of wickets to fall while keeping the score moving in a positive direction. Sean and Luke opened the bating and returned with a stand of 21 runs in their 5 overs without losing their wicket. Liam and Adam picked up the pace with some fine shots and lost only one wicket. Isaac and Max moved the total on demonstrated some fine calling and running between the wickets leaving Charlie and Ben to take the game home losing only one wicket in the process.
No pair returned without keeping the scoreboard ticking along and in total lost only two wickets in the 20 overs both to good bowling and fielding. The pick of the batters Adam with some very mature shots and Charlie and Ben who put on a stand of over 5O runs for the last pair. Ben finishing top scorer with 30 runs.
Both teams played the game in a fine spirit and credit should be given to the Fyfield team who worked hard all game in what for some was their first competitive match. We look forward to welcoming them to the Thorley Oval again this season for some friendly fixtures.
Well done to all.
