A Very Physical Battle
Towcester kept on battling right to the very end but to no avail.
A trip to Wasps training grounds at Broad Street proved to be a very tough physical encounter for Tows.
This season we saw a very true 2nd XV from Broad Street with dropped first team players having to play 2nd team rugby to regain their places.
This showed in the first ten minutes as the big number 8 and an allusive number 7 ran steam roller over the Tows defence.
Poor tackling gave the home side easy territory as they made lots of easy metre splintering the defence allowing a soft first try.
5 minutes later exactly the same scenario and the home side scored their second.
The second score seemed to rally the visitors and moving the ball through the hands found Sam Aitchison on the wing who with his blistering pace ran round the outside of the home defence for his first of 3 scores.
Buoyed by the score Tows really went to sleep at the restart. The ball bounced between 4 Tows players and the home side pounced.
The half closed out with no more scores and still a hill to climb for Towcester.
After a few changes to the side at half time Towcester started the brightest.
Paddy Falvey pounced onto a fumbled ball and the attack started inside the visitors own half. Rowan Griggs on debut offloaded the ball again to Sam Aitchison who again used his pace to score his second.
3 minutes later the back gave the ball again to Sam and he scored his third.
The home side rallied and went back to using the 2 big back rowers as the started to dominate the collisions as we dropped off tackles again.;
Two scores later they were back in control but to Tows credit they didn't stop.
Alistair Donkor used his strength and pace the same as the opposition and but Tows back within one score of a win but alas it wasn't to be. The home side ran down the clock for the win.
A great game to watch and we will be looking forward to the return fixture at Greens Norton
