RWC 2019 And The "Try For All" Initiative and Rugby Legends

By Bob Curry

With less than 110 days to the start of RWC 2019 Rugby Clubs in Derbyshire are coming together to provide a gift to the Japanese.

Derbyshire County Council, Derby City Council and South Derbyshire District Council have a joint international relationship with Toyota City in Japan. Together, the Councils are part of a Toyota City Partnership and the aim of this partnership is to develop opportunities in Toyota City and Derbyshire for the people who live in these places.

As I’m sure you know, four of the matches in the Rugby World Cup will be in the fantastic new Toyota Stadium. The Mayor of Toyota City, Mayor Ota, is going all out to create a welcome in Toyota City and to use the Rugby World Cup as a base for encouraging excellence across the City using the slogan ‘Try for all’, - in English.

The Partnership would very much like ‘Derbyshire’ to greet Mayor Ota during the Rugby World Cup and we are looking at imaginative ways to do this. Members of local Clubs who are going to the RWC are working jointly on getting a message of support to Mayor Ota.

An invitation to the launch of TRY FOR ALL… and a taste of Japan before RWC2019 Saturday 22 June, 1.00 PM @ Derby Rugby Club, Haslams Lane Derby DE22 1EB

100 World Legends XV vs. Derby City Mission Invitation XV featuring our very own Phil Harrison!

Derbyshire County Council, Derby City Council and South Derbyshire District Council are delighted to invite you to the launch of Try for All. This marks the celebration of our partnership with Toyota City, home of four matches in the first round of the Rugby World Cup 2019.

Mayor Ota, Mayor of Toyota City, is using Try for All to use the city’s involvement with RWC to motivate every part of city life. To honour our very special relationship with Toyota City we are sending rugby themed gifts from Derbyshire to Toyota City to mark its special role in this prestigious international tournament.

We would like to create an album of photographs from Derbyshire’s Rugby Clubs along with a Rugby Ball signed by each Club. This charity rugby fixture featuring international rugby legends such as British Lion Alan Bateman, All Black Bruce Reihana, Ireland’s David Corkery and England’s Lee Mears.

This invitation is for you and your club members to join us at 22 June at Derby Rugby Club our hospitality stall for a taste of Japan. We will take a photograph of you all wearing Club colours and include the Try for All! banner as we have with Rolls Royce RFC. And you will sign the Try for All ball.

For more information and to RSVP please contact Sarah by email sarah.burkinshaw@derbyshire.gov.uk or phone 01629 538496.
