Uxbridge romp to victory at home to Old Millhillians

Uxbridge run in eleven tries at home to depleted Old Millhillians side.

Uxbridge returned to league action after a three week hiatus looking to bed down fourth place in the league against an Old Millhillians side who claimed the spoils back in December.

On the road, besieged by injuries, and wallowing after a league-enforced 25 point deduction, the visitors arrived light on numbers but full of heart and adventure as the opening exchanges were scrappy with numerous infringements from both sides.

After a short spell of Old Millhillians possession that was soaked up by a robust Bridge defence the first try of the afternoon for the home side came from close range through husband-to-be and club stalwart Matt Cowper following a break down the middle by fly-half Will Searle.

Cowper and Uxbridge’s second shortly followed as he broke loose down the left ring and left his opposite man trailing to extend the Bridge lead.

This opened the flood gates for the home side and scores shortly followed from the returning Sam Dillamore and Kyle Buckingham and as well as another two from Matt Cowper after good work out wide including Isaac Williams being illegally levelled having already unselfishly got the ball away.

Bridge took a 43-0 lead into half time but knew the style of play and intensity was not where it needed to be and vowed to come out in the second half and exploit the space that existed.

Returning new father Simon Coldwell was introduced into the second row for Adam Jenkins who had exceeded all expectations lasting a half with no injuries, and formed part of a solid forwards defence of Buckingham, Lamport and Coles to deny the visitors any way out of their half.

A desperate loose kick ensued and was returned as Buckingham broke loose and fed Cowper (who for the record could have passed it to Coles) to register his fifth of the day.

Skipper Jake Lamport then got in on the action finding himself in midfield (which if rumour is to be believed, he may find himself doing a lot more of) before selling the defending centre a lovely dummy and ghosting in under the posts to dot down.

Shortly after Dillamore etched up his second of the afternoon from close range of the back of a scrum to take the score to 62-0, before a well worked team try with solid running from Williams and Dan Evans feeding winger Graeme Bartlett to run in a fine effort from 40 yards out.
Brian Cassidy added the extra’s before the referee called time and bought the game to a close at 69-0.

Uxbridge are on the road for their final away game of the season next week (Saturday 30 March- K.O. 3pm) at West London. All support is welcome and all players are asked to make themselves available.
