The battlefields are at The Quintin Hogg Memorial Ground home of Polytechnic FC and Chiswick Station will be under siege around 1pm today when the light infantry arrive -- maybe it should be the "tight" infantry as the troops are already assembled at the garrison at Beckenham.
No team enjoys support like the Bluebloods and a big crowd is expected today as the First team seek the victory that will crown an excellent season. A point will do to win the league but when did Wickham ever play for a draw? Never.
And dear old Quintin?
Was he the Hogg who became Baron Hailsham of Marleybone -- ie Quintin McGarel Hogg KG CH PC FRS. No idea what all those letters signify -- but I'm sure he was a lovely chap. Did they name the playing fields after him?
Or was it the Old Etonian, Quintin Hogg who died in 1903 after choking on a sausage. This Quintin won 2 caps for Scotland and played for the famous Wanderers team who won the FA Cup. My money is on this Quintin -- he sounds like a top sportsman and we will drink to his memory later after Mark Williams gets off the Cold List today by heading in the winner.
Enjoy the game today -- it's another historical football Saturday -- it will be a " big day out" that's a certainty. Come on you Bluebloods.
