Redruth v Worthing – Sponsored by LWC Cornwall (Jolly’s)
Saturday 5th January 2019 – Kick-off 2pm
On Saturday the Reds welcome Worthing who have been regular visitors, along with their sizeable and sociable travelling support, for a number of years. Worthing ended 2018 just above the Reds in 7th place with 39 points.
Worthing’s last game of 2018 was their ‘local’ derby against Guernsey in which they ran out winners by 43 - 36. Worthing’s top player this season has to be Matthew McLean with a remarkable 179 points including 11 tries, John Dawe also has an impressive 9 tries. The match between the two sides back in September is one the Reds will want to forget, after going in at half-time level at 14 - 14 the Reds imploded in the 2nd half as Worthing ran riot, running in 8 tries from all angles to triumph by 68-21!
After our ‘local’ derby against Taunton the Reds are now in 9th place with 37 points. The Reds will be no doubt greatly encouraged after the performance against Taunton, where after trailing 25 – 5 at half-time they staged a tremendous comeback to only lose by 35 – 33. Top try scorers so far Jack Oulton and Ben Fox both with 5, Arron Simmonds leads the way with the boot on 73 points.
Last season the home team claimed the win in both fixtures, but only just; the Reds winning the first encounter 20–19 and then Worthing getting their revenge with a 46 - 43 victory in the return in a game where defences took a day off!
Come on you Reds.
