In form Witham Town together with their fanatical supporter James Beardwell are the visitors to Parkside tomorrow in a Bostik league clash that promises to be a keenly fought contest. Blues recorded an opening day victory at Witham winning 2-0 with goals from the now departed Shomari Barnwell and Mitch Hahn. However Witham exacted revenge in September in the Velocity Cup winning on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes, Blues dominated that clash but couldn't find the all important goal.
Mark Ashford's men endured a difficult start to the season winning just one league match between August and November but December brought an upturn in form and results, They remained unbeaten during the month with some notable scalps, the away wins at Canvey and Maldon & Tiptree being the standout victories. Last Saturday saw them go down 2-0 away to Mildenhall Town their first defeat since the end of November. Ashford has strengthened his squad making a number of shrewd signings lately, Toby Amoralaran joined from Tilbury, and just this week Siju Odelusi arrived from Barking and Kurt Smith from Romford both are expected to be in the squad tomorrow. Leading marksman for Town is Sam Ashford with eight goals although he has now moved on to East Thurrock.
Blues go into the game full of confidence after a great team performance last Saturday at Maldon & Tiptree , taking an early lead they found themselves behind after two quick strikes from the Jammers but showed their resolve coming back strongly in the second half with a Kieran Bishop goal to give them a well earned point. With a full squad available Blues will be looking to maintain their interest in the play off places and avenge their defeat on penalties in the Velocity Cup back in September.
