Blackfield & Langley vs Bideford
Southern League Division One South
Saturday 17th November 2018
3:00pm kick off
Gang Warily Recreation Ground, Fawley
It’s a long trip and a tough assignment for The Robins on Saturday as they travel to second placed Blackfield & Langley in Southern League Division One South. Blackfield & Langley are in their first season in the Southern League after winning the Wessex League Premier Division in 2017/18 and are going very well. Their last six results have been a bit mixed though with wins over Melksham, Larkhall and Totton (in the League Cup) and defeats to Moneyfields, Bristol Manor Farm and Yate (in the FA Trophy). Bideford are in good form although they will have been disappointed to have not taken all three points at home to Mangotsfield last weekend. However The Robins are unbeaten in five games with four wins and a draw. Captain Matt Bye has left the club this week to sign for Helston Athletic but Bideford should welcome back Sean Downing, Ben Palmer and Ian Sampson. Billy Tucker remains sidelined through injury.

A Brief History of Blackfield & Langley FC
Blackfield & Langley were formed in 1935 playing first in the Hythe & District League followed by the Southampton League. The club won Division One of the Southampton Junior League in 1945/46 and a year later the West Division and Senior Cup double. In 1949 Blackfield & Langley moved up to the Hampshire League playing in Division Three. In 1951/52 they were crowned Division Three West champions and spent the next 30 odd years bouncing between Divisions Two, Three and Four. In 1984/85 they were Division Two champions and gained promotion to Division One (renamed Premier Division in 1999). After finishing runners up three times, The Watersiders finally were Hampshire League champions in 1997/98 but were unable to be promoted due to ground requirements. The club were however promoted in 2000 after a third place finish meant they could take their place in the Wessex League. While they struggled initially, Blackfield & Langley were runners up in 2008/09 and gained promotion to the Premier Division. Then in 2012/13 they were crowned Wessex League Champions but did not apply for promotion for financial reasons. In 2017/18 the club won their second Wessex League title and this time were able to accept promotion meaning they will play in the Southern League for the first time in 2018/19.
