Next up - Waltham Abbey away on Saturday, 5th November at Capershotts, EN9 1LU, Ryman Isthmian League Div 1 (North). Kick off 3pm.
Football is undeniably a team game and there is no doubt that in the last few matches Ware's team has developed into a very good one. Despite players being unavailable through injury, suspension or other commitments the squad has responded to the challenge and delivered results on the field.
As part of the team ethic the received wisdom is that no one player is bigger than the whole but that view will receive its biggest challenge of the season as Ware take the field without top scorer Gareth Price. Price hasn't just been scoring goals but providing width to the attack as he probes defences from both wings. However, his fifth yellow card of the season last Saturday rules him out of this game.
With Price out, one of last week's missing players, Evandro Delgado, may get a swift return to league duty. He played the full ninety minutes in the midweek senior cup win at Eton Manor so has played himself back into consideration for the Ryman team. Expect Kyle Forster to be back between the sticks for his 17th league appearance after ceding the position to Joe Simmonds for the senior cup game.
The left back slot could be open to question. Alaa Oujdi returned from suspension to play against Eton Manor but Luis Fernandes played well during Alaa's absence and as a result has given Ken Charlery a selection headache.
Waltham Abbey have won their last three home league games and drew in midweek at Soham to end the Cambridgeshire side's own run of four league wins. With home advantage Abbey will hardly be pushovers especially as they know a win will take them above Ware in the table.
Abbey suffered heavy home defeats in both national cup competitions losing 5-0 at home to Wingate & Finchley in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round (a warning there for us in our FA Trophy game next Saturday). In the Trophy they were beaten 5-0 again this time by Merstham last Saturday.
