Farsley Celtic begin their 2017/18 Northern Premier League campaign with the visit of Coalville Town to Throstle Nest in a first-ever meeting between the two clubs. Coalville Town finished last season in 17th place in the Northern Premier League, nine points clear of the drop zone, in their first season back in step three.
Farsley have welcome in a new management team this offseason with Adam Lakeland taking charge assisted by Mark Bett, following the resignations of Neil Parsley and John Deacey. Farsley have been busy in the transfer market, bringing back Adam Priestley, signing new club captain Danny Ellis and most recently acquiring Nathan Cartman on loan from Darlington whilst also making numerous other additions. Farsley have gone six unbeaten in pre-season since losing to York City 4-1, with an impressive 3-1 victory over Harrogate Town the highlight. Ahead of the game Farsley forward Paul Walker said "It's Saturday when it really counts and points are there to be played for."
Coalville Town made another addition to their squad this week with the signing of former Yeovil youngster Ollie Bassett. Coalville have had a mixed pre-season with five defeats, two draws and four victories. Pre-season did conclude on a high as they went four games unbeaten, with victories over St Andrews (11-1), Gresley FC (3-2) and Frickley Athletic (8-1), whilst drawing with Rothwell (1-1).
