I would guess that many a Crow supporter sat at home on Wednesday night was hoping that our visitors for this fixture would do us a favour and beat their visitors on the night Sevenoaks Town. A natural desire given our position in the table, however, at the end of the game they had at least taken a point from the game in a 1-1 draw, coming from behind and thus preventing the Oaks taking all three.
It does though highlight how difficult this fixture will be for the Crows, especially as a couple of players are suspended and another couple are out for the rest of the season injured however, the squad has strength in depth and all the players have proved over the recent hectic period of fixtures that everyone steps up to the plate when called upon.
Our record against Lordswood since we joined the SCEFL is pretty good, winnng more games than we have lost against them. In our first season, 2014/15, we lost 3-2 at home but won 2-1 away and in the 2015/16 campaign we won 2-1 at home but lost 2-1 away, so two wins and two defeats each so far.
In the 2016/17 season we did the league double over the visitors, winning 2-0 at home and 4-2 away. As for this season we have beaten them already, 4-0 away and a score line like that for the Crows in this game would do nicely, as would 2-0 but personally, I'd settle for any score that gets the three points for the Crows.
Lordswood currently sit in 9th place in the table having played one more game than us, 34. They have won 15 of those, drawn 9 and lost 10, scored 55 and conceded 52 so their goal difference is at least in the positive, 3. After this match, their remaining three fixtures are away at Rusthall on a Monday night, the following Saturday they're at home to Corinthian and due to the SCEFL ruling which affected our home game against Sevenoaks Town, Lordswood will be at home to Whitstable Town on the same Monday night.
They have already done us a favour at home to the Oaks so we'll hope they can do us an even bigger favour when they play that match against the Oystermen and beat them, although Whitstable Town have beaten them twice in the semi-final of the SCEFL Challenge Cup home and away, Lordswood did draw 1-1 away to them earlier in the season.
They definitely seem to raise their game when it comes to playing the top teams in the table so the Crows will have to watch out that they don't become the fall guys so they can take advantage of the Lords and Canterbury City taking points off the top two in their last fixtures.
Admission: £8 adults, £4 concessions, U16's £1 - FREE if accompanied by a paying adult. A 16 page full-colour programme is £1. Turnstiles open at 1:30pm and the Top Nosh Tea Bar and the Crow Arms will be open at the same time.
