Another big rugby weekend as our 1st XV are at home again this Saturday, when we will be welcoming UCS Old Boys ('UCSOB') to Old Deer Park. UCSOB are the only team to beat our 1st XV in the league this season, when a Simon Davies try and Lloyd Davies conversion wasn't enough in a tricky encounter at their temporary home in Finchley, as Welsh went down 17-7. Welsh quickly put the disappointment of the defeat behind them scoring almost 200 points in the next 4 games, including the last gasp victory at Bank of England (BoE), and we will be looking to gain the win over UCSOB on Saturday to maintain our unbeaten home run.
UCSOB's season started with defeats to BoE and Hendon but improved with a narrow win at London French. They went on to make it four wins in a row with the 17-7 scoreline against us and then successful visits to Actonians and Barnet. The remaining two wins have been a 24-10 result at Watford, and a Hendon walk over. UCSOB haven't played a league fixture in the past month and, other than friendlies, haven't played a match at home since our visit in Round 4, so they will raring to go. They are currently sixth in the table averaging of 21 points 'for' per match and 23 'against'. By comparison, London Welsh are averaging 34 points 'for' and 10 points 'against', both of which are the best in the league.
Welsh head into this game nine points clear at the top of the table, although second-placed Bank of England do have a game in hand. Second placed BoE plays third placed Royston this weekend a result that will be viewed with interest at ODP.
