After a much needed week off the super 2’s are back in action on Saturday in an away fixture against Aylesford Bulls 3rd XV. They will look to continue their winning form after two hard wins over Gravesend and Canterbury respectively in their last two games.
Captain Russ had his work cut out this week with a few key players missing including Martin Povey and his life-partner Tom “Hammer” Hammerton.
This week sees Nick “Gump” Stevens throw his name in the hat for front row selection where he will line up alongside Ben Randall and Matt “Plank” Vickery. This will be the first fixture of the season without Stu Coleman who has been told to take a week of rest after pulling his calf in last weeks Veterans fixture.
In a new 2nd row partnership Andy Hinde will pack down with Harry William Dmitri Steve Frank Erland Jakob Craig Dennis Gavin Eddie Mark John Glenn Ballantyne, that really is his full name… Supporting the engine room this week will be Russell Allen and Jordan Lynch with the returning Darrell Conlan back at 8 to keep the pack under control.
Doug Wilson will play in his 3rd consecutive 2’s game for the first time in a year after a long run at the helm of the 1st XV. Welcoming him back and enjoying the service is Liam Cole at fly half who will be looked at to continue the kicking form he has displayed in the first few games and keep the scoreboard ticking over. The centres are made up of one time 2’s “Manager” Will McArthur and Brad Millbank, freshly recovered after his super try against Gravesend a few weeks ago.
Injuries pending the wings will be made up of new prop sized Axl Elcome and Kane Lockyer with Joe Wortham chomping at the bit to get on and play again. Full back sees Vernon Ras make his 2’s Debut after news hit this week that Old G’s resident boy band member Jamie “Blazin’ Squad” Edwards had defected from the club a matter of months after running for Captain and headed off to local rivals Vigo. The was great news for Sam Snell who will now stop getting stick for being salty about not becoming captain!
With both teams away this week any support going down to Aylesford is welcomed by the guys and lifts can be arranged if needed. Either way everyone will be back in the club after the game for the 3rd half!
