AK1XV stage 2nd half fight back vs Firwood Waterloo
finishing 43-22 to Loo, AK vow to bounce back up to N1W next season
On a hot and sunny April Saturday afternoon, with temperatures more like the middle of summer, AK welcomed Firwood Waterloo to Stelfox Ave, Loo keen to address their last minute 33-31 defeat at the hands of a then strong and injury free AK on the very first game of season 2017/18 last September.
It was a very different AK 1XV faced Loo today, having suffered one of the most injury prone seasons on record and with many key, influential players out with serious injuries throughout the season, everyone at AK hoping for full & speedy recoveries for all concerned over the closed season.
To be totally fair, Waterloo were dominant from the get go, attacking AK from all angles in a blistering first half that saw Loo secure the majority of their tries, AK's players never gave up though, battling hard, it was obvious that the lads were just not prepared to see the season out with a huge loss and all the lads rallied in the 2nd half, pulling together and gradually got more of a grip on the game, in a show of strength and defiance and in the knowledge that a season in South Lancs & Cheshire League now awaits, AK started to make inroads into Loo's territory, finally saving grace with a 22-43 loss.
AK's tries coming from Jack Gallimore, Andy Thomas, Jon Dodd and Callum Yates, also with a conversion.
Later at AK's Captain's dinner, it was pointedly obvious that the target next season for Altrincham Kersal 1XV is to bounce straight back into N1W where we rightfully belong.
Well done to Firwood Waterloo, for a consistent season finishing a creditable 4th place behind Wilmslow, Northwich and run away leaders all season Vale of Lune, thanks for a great game of rugby today, it's always good to play against a great set of lads, we wish them all well in their 2018/19 campaign......AK WILL be back!!
A HUGE thank you to all the support for the players & coaching staff over this difficult season, to all the dedicated supporters, volunteers, bar staff and all those that offer their tireless support in the running of this great, proud amateur community rugby club,
See you all next season,
AK 1XV & Club Captain.
