The Eagles picked up a big win against Bedfordshire rivals Leighton Town to keep the title fight alive. Two former Leighton players Leon Lobjoit and Kyle Connolly got the goals as Bedford picked up all three points.
The Eagles got off to a good start in the game and were well on top. It only took twelve minutes for Bedford to take the lead. This came from a Leon Lobjoit penalty which he converted against the club he had so much success with.
Leighton started to crank up the pressure and have a few chances afterwards. But this was nothing the Bedford defence and Mark Smith couldn’t handle. This becomes a common theme throughout the day.
The Eagles had some chances as the Bedford attack looked like more the Leighton defence could handle. Ryan Blake had the best chance of the lot which went just wide.
The second half got off to a similar start for Bedford as it was soon 0-2. The ball fell to Kyle Connolly who was far from goal and at an angle, but his effort managed to find the back of the net and make it 0-2.
Both sides made some changes to mix the game up a bit, but Bedford were defending well. Leighton should’ve scored in the 95th minute but Mark Smith somehow kept the ball out and made what looked like an impossible save which was enough to win the game and keep a clean sheet.
