Yr 3/4 Tag Festival

Burnley RUFC hosted the school year 3/4 Tag Festival on Tuesday the 3rd of May. Organised by Burnley Schools Sports Partnership led by Helen Tyson and supported by Paddy Martin, 18 schools turned up and every school got a full morning of rugby. The morning began with the schools in 5 groups then all schools were re-pooled and more games of rugby took place.

"What is great to see is the standard on show from these young sports people with both boys and girls running amazing angles and the footwork to sidestep an opponent a pleasure to witness" said , Simon Finnan Burnley Community Rugby Coach.

On the day a mention must be given to all the referees with three out of the five pitches being refereed by Yr. 10 pupils, Elona from Blessed Trinity and Chris and Ellis from St Christopher's, who many years ago represented their junior schools in such tournaments and presently represent Burnley RUFC plus Martin Churchill & Dom Leck from Burnley RUFC.So any of the 200 plus children playing for your school, if you enjoyed it , let's continue playing at school but also contact 07988122186 and join the towns team. Also the young leaders from Blessed Trinity who helped on the pitches with scoring and also sold tea and coffees to parents. Thankyou all.

The overall winners were St Mary Magdalene's Burnley, with Padiham Green as runners up, 3rd was Holy Trinity and 4th Wellfield. However like mentioned earlier the standard just gets better each year and all 18 schools scored some really good tries and commendable was seeing a couple of schools purely made up of Yr. 3 students so next year they will have good experience.

Finally again from Burnley RUFC thanks to well organised flowing event from SSP and all the schools that attended the club - St Mary Magdalene's, St Augutine's, Padiham Green, Heasandford, Holy Trinity, Casterton, Lowerhouse, Christ the King, Cherryfold, St Joseph's Park Hill, Worthorne, Wellfield, Springfield, Rosewood, St Mary's, Padiham Primary, Barden and Cliviger.
