An excellent sunny day, saw our U14 team take on their counterparts from the Aboyne twin town of Martignas in France. The French squad arrived on Friday evening for a BBQ and at Woodend and meet their hosts. On arrival at the respective houses, lots of wine appeared out of the bags to ease the conversations!
A bright sunny morning on Saturday was the perfect setting for our first international match at Woodend. In true style, Craig piped the teams and Presidents onto the pitch for pre-match presentations and handshakes prior to the game. The spirit of rugby.
An evenly matched contest then ensued, with Martignas getting the first try but in the end Deeside ran out winners 31-18.
After post match lunch, the teams were of to the swimming pool in Aboyne and other activities there. A combined training game will take place on Sunday morning followed by more activities and a social evening before our French visitor fly off on Monday.
Plans are already being made for a return visit next year.
