Gaffers notes ahead of Welbeck Welfare 25/10/14

WELCOME TO SCROOBY ROAD
Hello and welcome to Scrooby Road Recreational ground for today’s league game against Welbeck.
I’m writing this on the back of two excellent 1-0 results, the first at home to a strong Askern side and the second away at Kinsley boys and I can honestly say they were the best back to back victories in my short managerial career, granted they were not emphatic victories with loads of goals and goalmouth action but the way the lads dug in was so pleasing, there has been a bit of a black cloud over the club in the last couple of months on and off the pitch and not just because the results have not been great it’s just been a struggle to get the new players to the club to buy into the clubs philosophy and the communication regarding training and availability for match games has been almost none existent to the point that I have questioned if I was the right man for the job but the lads we put out on the pitch for the last two games have gone a long way to restoring my faith.
It’s easy to mention the lads who have won us the two games but the two victories have not just been a fluke, for weeks now we have been working hard as a group in training and the sessions Lee Danysz and Jonny Wilson have put on have been excellent and the lads who have turned up have bought into what Lee and Jonny have been trying to do and the victories are proof of this, we are a long way off were we need to be but it’s a start so onwards and upwards as they say !
So onto today’s game, Welbeck are bottom of the league at the minute but have had some close games with a few of the teams that we have struggled against especially Ollerton where they have been beat by the odd goal on both occasions and I’m sure if you take the last two weeks away Welbeck would have targeted this game to get them up and running again and if we don’t apply ourselves properly we could end up coming back down to earth with a bang.
On the injury/unavailability front, James Woodward who was last week’s star man in Harworth Colliery’s very own dream team is not available due to social commitments and the ever reliable and Mr consistent Dave Cornthwaite is also unavailable as he is in Venice, Gaz sides is also unavailable for today’s fixture, so we welcome skipper Martyn Gee who was unavailable due to work commitments last week back into the squad and also new signing Tommy Durrant who is still yet to make his debut after re-joining the club over a month ago due to an injury he picked up in a friendly.
We also welcome back to the club Lee Edmondson who left the club at the end of last season to rightly try and better himself at Parkgate FC, unfortunately due to work commitments it did not work out for Eddie and are delighted to have him back at Harworth and look forward to working with him again.
Another player that has returned after a short spell at Hallam is Makenzie Tomlinson, Makenzie has real raw talent and if we can get him to settle at the club and become more consistent I believe he can be a real star of the future.
I’m sure today’s game will be an entertaining affair so grab yourself a cuppa from Tom’s tea room and sit back enjoy the game!, May I take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Welbeck officials and supporters and hope everyone enjoys the game and have a safe journey home. B.wilson
