The first XV entertain Huddersfield in the Yorkshire Cup while Veterans play Skipton at home.

Out of the two clubs, Otley have history with this Cup having won nine times starting in 1889 and their last win (against Rotherham) was in 1993. Huddersfield have the most recent win, in 2011, against Hull. Due to us being in a higher league, this is the first time Otley have played in the competition this year, whilst Huddersfield have beaten Sheffield and Doncaster Phoenix to earn their place in the quarter finals.

Peter Clegg is facing a balancing act in that he wants to ensure we progress to the semi-finals, whilst bearing in mind that N2N rugby is not yet in the bag. A total of five teams will go down from either Two North or Two South. Preston Grasshoppers (24 points), Sheffield Tigers (27) and Scunthorpe (33) are the current bottom three in Two North, with Exmouth (27), Worthing (34) and Barnes (37) the equivalent trio in Two South. Although it is tight between the two leagues, at the moment it is looking like three will go down from North, and Otley are 15 points above Scunthorpe.

Although Huddersfield finished bottom of the 2015-16 N2N league table, it looks as though they will be back with us for the 2017-18 season. The visitors are cutting a swathe through National League Three North, having won all 20 matches, and they are 13 points ahead of second-placed Rossendale with six matches left. Last season Otley did the double over Huddersfield in the league, and the visitors will doubtless want to test their progress against higher league opposition in the ‘neutral’ arena of the Yorkshire Cup.
