The 2nd XV return to Abbeydale this weekend following last week’s rest. They Sheff boys would have more than likely have been happy to play, however, following an excellent result away to high-flying Billingham on the 3rd November.

The lads travelled there off of the back of a chastening defeat away at Wharfedale and managed to regain some confidence and form, eventually feeling aggrieved to have only drawn the game.

This week Doncaster Phoenix lay in wait. Sheffield will be hopeful of avenging the defeat suffered in the final of last season’s Gerry Roberts Trophy, where Phoenix took the spoils at the end of an incredibly successful season for both clubs.

Sheffield will be confident in one of the strongest teams fielded in recent years, owing to the return of numerous players from varying issues.

The pack sees a back row made up of three players with first team experience (Jack Hawley, Charlie Mason, Sam Sumner), all of whom offer physicality in bucket loads, along with nous and experience that will benefit the cause greatly.

In the back line, the settled partnership of Fisher and Parker will orchestrate a potent attack, with the outside trio of Morley, Womack and Andy Hodgson boasting over 300 first team appearances between them.

Some outstanding firepower from the bench, in the shape of the on-form Weeratungu and Duncan, who will make an exceptional impact when called upon.
