ILLINGWORTH DIDN'T TAKE LONG TO RESPOND

Siddal's young side were brought down to earth with a humbling defeat against a harder working Illingworth team. Siddal opened the scoring as early as the second minute through Conner McCallum forcing his way over under the posts and Kyle Ackroyd slotted the conversion for a 0-6 lead.

Illingworth didn't take long to respond. Hooker Dale Taylor and fullback Luke Sutcliffe were a constant threat and the two combined after 9 minutes when Sutcliffe gathered Taylor's beautifully weighted kick to touch down under the posts. A successful kick levelled the scores at 6-6.

The home side started to take the initiative and it took a desperate tackle from Elliott Jewitt to hold the Siddal line intact. Illingworth nudged ahead 8-6 after 32 minutes when, despite being down to 12 men following the sin binning of Taylor, they succeeded with a penalty attempt after a high shot was given by an over zealous referee.

Siddal hit back on the stroke of half time when Jordan Baldwin scooted over from acting half back as the visitors went into the break at 8-10 ahead.

It was only 2 minutes into the second period that Illingworth grabbed a lead they would never relinquish. Dale Taylor made the most of an offload to dance around a static defence. The kick brought the scores to 14-10.

Two further penalties for dissent followed after 67 and 72 minutes, both of which were converted for a final score of 18-10. Siddal failed to match the home side's enthusiasm and their 100% start to the season came to an end with a poor display.
