Tavvy finished the 2011-12 season as Champions of the Tribute Cornwall & Devon League (KO 3pm).
Team News
There is one change to the side that scored 7 tries against Torquay Athletic with Tom Cotton, who put in an excellent shift at blindside, dropping to the bench for the returning Rob Jeffs.
Toby Colvin-Stunell is front row replacement and is joined on the bench by Colts Captain Sam Conybeare who will have a chance to test his undoubted talent in the Western Counties league for the first time. The full selection is available here.
Current Form
Tavistock are currently lying 12th in the league with 9 points have won 2 and lost of 4 of the 6 games to date. The victories came away against promotion partners Honiton (21-17) and at home to Ivybridge (23-17). The men from the Tavy appear to be adapting to life in the Western Counties as they have been competitive in most games so far this season. The only exception was their visit to Penryn last week where they went down 53-26.
Last Time Out
This is the first competitive encounter between the two sides since the 2006-07 season, a time of great transition for the Saints. The side that lost 20-10 to Tavistock on 16/09/06 (see match report) featured a number of upcoming youngsters including Gibbo, Windy, Sid, Kells and Jeffsy. A fantastic example to today’s Colts and aspiring young players as these players have continued to work hard and develop their game to form the nucleus of the current Saints’ squad.
The team photo also features the inimitable Guppy (in the back row, breathing-in), KORE MMA’s Steve Smith, terror of the open seas Cap’n Will Haddock, James Rowe and current Club Manager Darren Thompson.
