This team is really in need of a goal keeper.

Starting with a home fixture on Saturday 10th February on a frosty morning a 10.30 push back was looking tricky. Fortunately, Tadcaster Magnets 2 were prepared to travel in the hope that we could get the game started. The pitch was deemed fit at 10.25 and the game commenced shortly after.
Thirsk were fielding a team made up of half juniors and half seniors but no goal keeper. Playing a kicking back in the first half both sides had a couple of chances but the score remained 0-0. Some debate regarding the rules about a kicking back at half time meant Thirsk opted to play without in the second half and unfortunately Tadcaster finally put a goal in from a short corner. Final score 1-0 to Tadcaster. A hard-fought match played in good spirit by both teams.
The following day saw the same seniors, plus a couple more and only one junior as a somewhat mature team take on Leeds University 5 away at Weetwood. With no goal keeper again, only 1 sub and the comparative age difference between the teams quite wide it meant that this was always going to be a tough match. Sure enough Leeds proved much quicker and fresher than the Thirsk players and on a snowy cold morning put 5 goals into the back of the net despite valiant attempts from the Thirsk defence. Final score 5-0 to Leeds.
Saturday 17th saw Thirsk travel to Ben Rhydding 5 with only 2 junior players, no subs and no goal-keeper again. Luckily the Thirsk backs are getting quite skilled at playing without a goalie and some great defensive play took place. Thirsk initially took the lead, scoring from a short corner however Ben Rhydding quickly pulled one back and the first half finished 1-1. A more organised Ben Rhydding began the second half and eventually their pressure paid off with a second goal. Thirsk battled hard to pull one back and the Ben Rhydding goalie was forced to make a couple of great saves however the final whistle came with the match ending at 2-1 to Ben Rhydding.
Whilst wins are in short supply for the ladies 4ths most matches have been very close results. Often with a different group of players every week as we bring in new under 14s to play alongside the Back2Hockey ladies and other seniors. Team spirit is strong and everyone is enjoying themselves.
