Hard work not rewarded by absent players.

On a pitch still holding some snow at the edges, the boys had a much improved day. Despite losing 3 players late on before the day started, we still managed to field 10:

Tom Hall, George Hunt, Jack Devlin, Arthur Webster-Jones, Joe de Winter, Jacob Stamp, Ben Sherwood, Oli Dale, Matty Raynor, Fred Hunt.

The first game was against Leeds Adel. With a guest from Leeds giving us a full 11, we started fast with George running through from half way to put away a clinical finish in the first minute. The goal seemed to give the team a real boost and they continued to dominate possession throughout the game, finishing 3-0 deserved winners (guest scored 2).
Straight onto a match with Leeds, who had won their first match convincingly. However, Thirsk defended hard and made it difficult for Leeds to put many shots away, and Tom made some good saves. The 2 goals conceded were both slightly scrambled, but heads did not go down, they continued to frustrate the Leeds team, and attack on the break. Shortly after Jacob had a shot saved, Fred was able to convert a textbook routine when a cross from the right had the keeper out of position, leaving him a straightforward goal. Unfortunately the end arrived too soon for an equaliser: 1-2.
The third game was against 9 man Bradford. We did not play quite so well, but created enough chances to win comfortably, including a disallowed solo effort from Ben. With the last play of the game, our defence was a little slow to react to the only serious threat in the Bradford team, who scored.
An unfortunate end to the day, but the boys showed how quickly the team have improved since the start of the season. Everyone contributed really well.
Next match is on 4 Feb, followed by 25 Feb and 29 April It would be great if we can put out a full squad. Have a great Christmas and look forward to more goals in the New Year.
