Thirsk Thunder were one of two U14 Thirsk teams that entered the 11th June round of the U14 Teesside Summer League.

The temperature was oppressive throughout the afternoon yet the team played with determination throughout.

Thunder, with Guy as Capt and WillB as vice-Capt, were a mix of players who had played in the first round in May and also: new recruit JackD wearing a Thirsk shirt for the first time and securing 4 goals throughout the afternoon; and two of Thirsk's younger but very able players drafted in, at relatively late notice, to help get two Thirsk teams out, AlexG and HattieC.

Molly was a cool head in goal throughout all matches, achieving a clean sheet bonus in the Stokesley match. This is a young lady who just gets better and better in goal and is undoubtedly now a core member of Thirsk's summer league squad. Molly also stayed to play goalkeeper for one of the other teams.

Hattie a regular in last season's U14B Boys' squad, and Oliver on his second U14 Summer League outing gave an excellent account in defence.

WillB, Jacob, Guy, JackD, Alex (and later Hattie), put in a great shift all afternoon in midfield supporting the defence when required but also working together to engineer great attacking play; end result with Jacob securing 2 goals, JackD securing 4 goals, and young Alex getting 1 goal.

Players' Player:
WillB for an outstanding performance all day in midfield and defence.

Manager's Player:
AlexG playing with experience and tenacity, well beyond his age group.

Many thanks to Alex and Hattie for agreeing to play for Thunder at relatively short notice to cover late player withdrawals.

Also a big thank you to Will for umpiring all of Thunder's games, and to all the parents for cheering the team on.
