Unbeaten run is extended to 5 games with another strong performance

A magnificent bright and crisp day saw us take on Woodmansterne Hyde for game number 5. Woodmansterne had had a mixed start, losing 2, drawing 1 and winning 1. As soon as they arrived it was obvious they were a very young side with very enthusiastic management, they looked like a good outfit and so we would have to be on our toes nice and early!!

The team had a couple of changes this week but were predominantly the same, the conditions really suited our style of play so I was looking forward to some entertaining football. We started really brightly, attacking down the flanks and creating some good chances, the midfield were working really hard and dominating the play. Ollie and Ryan were working well down the right and Woodmansterne had absolutely no answer to Ryan’s strong runs. We finally got what we deserved in the 23rd minute when Ryan exploded down the right again and put in a great cross for Cruncher to strike home, 1 0 brilliant. We were in control but needed to tighten it up again for 5 minutes as I knew Woodmansterne would want to hit back quickly. We were really confident now and were knocking the ball about brilliantly, one touch easy football exactly how we like to play. On 37 minutes we were rewarded for our dominance and great football with goal number 2 and it came from the same source. This time Ryan fed through a lovely little ball into the path of the Cruncher who didn’t disappoint as he slotted it past the Woodmansterne keeper. We were buzzing throughout the whole team and I didn’t want half time to come, we were playing so well. With 2 minutes of the 1st half left the Crunchmeister did it again, Foxy sent in a beautiful cross which Crunch headed past the Woodmansterne keeper to make it 3 0 going into the break.

We needed a nice tight 10 minutes and another goal starting the second half to snuff out any resistance from Woodmansterne. We started well again but Woodmansterne came out fighting and it was obvious they weren’t giving up on this game. We were still very up for it though and we soon settled into our rhythm again, the little lads of Woodmansterne tried firing it up a bit with some strong challenges but our experience told and we maintained control of the game. After 15 minutes I switched the team around and gave Crunch, Ryan and Daryl a rest, all had been brilliant. We were continuing to press and Andy Wads had a brilliant run down the wing which would have possibly ended in a goal if the whole team hadn’t stood back in astonishment at his turn of pace!! We were running the game and looked like the only team who would score but Woodmansterne played well in the 2nd half and managed to keep us out. So it finished 3-0 with a magnificent hat trick from Crunch, well deserved.

The team performance was superb, every player working for each other. As always a little louder vocals would be welcome but we’re getting there.

Man of the match. Very tough this week as a lot of outstanding performances. Ollie and Rich both had great games and that Andy Wads run!!! I am giving it to Crunch and Ryan who were outstanding today.
