Brighton & Hove Albion loanee admits he has learnt a lot about the physical side of the game at Worthing

Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Jordan Maguire-Drew said he has learned a lot during his time at Worthing Football Club.

The 18-year-old striker netted eight goals in six games to help the club gain promotion to the Ryman Premier Division, including three in the play-offs.

Maguire-Drew fired in the third as Worthing beat Faversham Town 3-0 in the play-off final on Saturday, before admitting that it has been a great learning curve for him.

“I’ve learnt so much about how to use my body, the physical side of it is unbelievable and I can’t thank Worthing enough. I’m so glad I’ve helped to get them promoted,” he said.

“The morale in the changing room is top notch. I know a couple of the lads anyway and all of them are top class, as people and on the pitch.

“This is just the start of it, for me and for Worthing as well. This club is on the up and for me; I’m going to challenge myself to get into that first team at Brighton.

“The fans especially have made it even more special for me because they’ve taken me on like I’m one of their own players and I couldn’t thank them enough.”

Maguire-Drew has scored some stunning goals since joining Worthing on loan, and felt the best was his second in the play-off semi-final win over Hythe Town.

He added: “My favourite goal was probably the free-kick. I didn’t really expect the goal today. It was more of an instinctive finish if I’m honest.

“It’s a top day for everyone at this football club. Thank George as well because a year and a half ago this club could have been non-existent. Thanks to him, this has happened.”
