Camp Hill secured their first league win of 2018 in a high scoring game that lurched one way and another and back again. Not so much a game of two halves but a play in three acts.

Camps started the game at a high tempo and it took no time at all for the return of Stephen Leach to a Camp Hill shirt to bear fruit. Firstly a sniping run from Stu Watts and a typical carry from 'Halbey' put the ball in his hands eight metres out and despite the attentions of several Wolves defenders he fought his way over for the opening try. Then after a burst from Jordan Oliver took the home side back into the Wolves 22,the forwards pushed the visitors off their own ball and the Number 8 was able to pick up and score his second try. With Ian Briggs adding both conversions, Camps were 14-0 in the first seven minutes. Next it was Beech House, Solihull, man of the match Harry Cunningham’s (pic) turn to turn defence into attack with another long carry and eventually the ball arrived in the hands of skipper Mitch Lee who went over for his first try of the season. Another steal from Harry set up a line-out in the Wolves 22 and a take by Lee and a rumble from the forwards gave prop Austin Bolger his first try of the campaign and a try bonus point 20 minutes into the game. Wolverhampton were seemingly helpless to prevent the Camp hill onslaught and five minutes later the home side were 31 points ahead when Ian Briggs regathered his own clever kick ahead to score the try and add the conversion.

There was no way Camps could maintain this frantic pace for the whole game and as they slowed Wolves finally got a foothold in the game and were able to score two tries of their own prior to the break at which point Camps led by 31-12.

Any hopes that Camps would start the second half as they did the first were soon dispelled as Wolves continued to profit from some home sides errors. They scored a third try early in the half and then, with Camps disrupted by a yellow card to centre George Wilkinson and an injury to second-row Mark Newton, added two more tries to bring the scores level 20 minutes into the second half. At this stage all the momentum was with the visitors and it was difficult to see how Camps could raise their game again. They found a spark however with the introduction of Dan Robinson to the backline. A fine initial break from Jordan Oliver, now operating at full back, gave Robinson the chance to break down the right wing and his inside pass sent Stu Watts clear for a try under the posts. Then, after another break from Harry Cunningham and a superb kick ahead Dan Robinson followed up to score another try which Briggsy again converted to stretch the lead to 14 points. With Wolves now tiring Camps were able to take full advantage and a quick penalty from Briggsy gave Jordan Oliver the chance for a run and kick ahead, which he regathered to score an excellent try. Then, a further penalty on one wing was launched perfectly by Briggs into the path of the alert Dan Robinson on the other wing and he was able to gather and score his second try converted by Briggsy. At 57-31 it was all over but to their credit Wolves still had time to add a fifth try of their own to round off a thoroughly entertaining afternoon.

Next week, Camps are at home again this time to Melbourne, which again is a vital match. All support will be welcome, please note from this Satrurday games revert to a 3pm kick-off.
