Chasetown appoint new manager

By Paul Mullins

Official Statement on new Managerial Appointment.

CHASETOWN FOOTBALL CLUB are today delighted to announce the appointment of MARCUS LAW as first team manager at the Scholars Ground succeeding Craig Harris.

The Management committee met with Marcus, who has an excellent non-league managerial record and it was clear he shares the same ambitions as the football club. His local knowledge and background of managing at this level as well as his experience in the Conference Premier made him a standout candidate. He knows Chasetown very well, having managed opponents against the Scholars over several seasons.

The 39 year old former Bristol Rovers goalkeeper has previously had spells in charge of Coventry Sphinx, Racing Club Warwick, Quorn, Barwell as well as both Kettering & Tamworth in the Conference Premier division. More recently Marcus has been working as a scout with professional football clubs.

The Coventry-born coach had his playing career ended prematurely by a hip injury during a spell with the Sacramento Knights in the United States, while his Football League career consisted of two appearances for Bristol Rovers in the 1994 - 95 season.

One of his biggest achievements as a manager was winning the Midland Alliance League with Barwell, leading the side to their highest position ever in the non-league pyramid as well as a semi-final appearance in the FA Vase. This period included an unbeaten league record of 61 games under his leadership.

Marcus was also in charge of a Tamworth side when they travelled to David Moyes’ Everton for a third round FA Cup tie at Goodison Park, losing 2-0 in January 2012.

He will take part in his first training session at the club on Tuesday evening & will be in charge of the Scholars for the first time, when they visit Leek Town in the Staffordshire Senior Cup the following night.

Where next?
