Chasetown 2 Kidsgrove Athletic 2
The Scholars came into the game without a win but started more brightly. They almost opened the scoring when Jon Beaumont’s goal bound effort was superbly tipped over the bar by Krystian Burzynski.
Grove rocked the hosts a minute before half time with Jordan Cole netting from close range after Alex Lingard had initially gone down under a challenge.
Kidsgrove were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute when Curtis Pond brought down former teammate Chris Baker. Cole converted the spot kick despite the keeper going the right way.
Chasetown got back in the game in bizarre fashion. Josh Sedgley crossed into the box and the ball eluded everyone and flew over the keeper's head.
A minute later Chasetown were deservedly level. Substitute Muzzy Nduna laid the ball back to skipper Jack Langston who drilled it hard and low beyond Burzynski.
Grove almost regained the lead but were denied by a stunning point blank save by Pond somehow getting the ball onto the crossbar.
Langston then turned provider for Jake Lovatt whose flying header was off target.
Grove had a lucky escape late on when Burzynski fouled Nduna outside the area and only received a yellow card. Burzynski then left the field with a shoulder/collarbone injury.
