MDTFC went into this game knowing that we needed all three points in our bid to escape relegation.
Within 2 minutes of the start we took the lead via Dave Howarth who converted with aplomb from the penalty spot - following a foul in the penalty area.
The first half was dominated by MDTFC who played with confidence and bags of attacking football. Joe Cuff caused all sorts of problems for the Kidsgrove defence with his surging runs and forceful attacking football.
Glynn Coney was also on 'fire' and he scored the goal of the season to put MDTFC in front 2-0; he had weaved his way past three defenders and hit a powerful drive into the Kidsgrove net.
We could well have gone in at half time leading by a greater margin than the 2-0 score line as we totally dominated the first half.
Second half - within a minute of the second half the goal scoring machine Anthony Malbon scored for Kidsgrove 2-1.
Within minutes we scored our third goal when Dave Howarth ran clear of the Kidsgrove defence; his first shot was saved by the Kidsgrove keeper, but Dave held his nerve and in no uncertain terms converted the rebound: 3-1.
Kidsgrove had started the second half playing with more confidence and were starting to ask questions of the MDTFC defence; there was a goal mouth scramble and there was that man Anthony Malbon to score his second goal and put Kidsgrove back into the game: 3-2.
Not to be outdone Glynn Coney with his wand of a left foot decided to copy his first goal, when he again weaved his way through the Kidsgrove defence and convert with another powerful drive to put MDTFC in front 4-2.
Drayton were being stretched by the Kidsgrove attack and there were some very nervous moments in the last quarter of the game; on the stroke of full time Anthony Malbon scored his third goal for Kidsgrove to reduce the arrears to 4-3.
Within a minute of this last goal the final whistle sounded to the relief of the Drayton supporters.
This was a game we could have scored even more goals, as we had played some of the best attacking football seen at Greenfields this season.
Every single MDTFC player gave it their all with Paul McMullen outstanding in defence and Joe Cuff and Glynn Coney on 'fire' with their flair and display of attacking football.
We now go into Saturday's game versus Gresley FC knowing that victory will guarantee safety from relegation.
Come on Drayton
