Exciting striker signs for Ossett

It will be of no surprise to anyone that Grant Black, named the 2016/17 Non-League Yorkshire Manager of the year has been inundated with offers to take him away from Ossett Town this summer. Despite this Black has committed himself to the Ingfield based side saying “We have unfinished business at Ossett Town, the club is a special place and full of great people behind the scenes”.

Black doesn’t feel that much has to change on the playing side but admits “the hardest job will be keeping everyone, after a season like we have had clubs are in contact with most of our players. One of our East Coast rivals, who have contacted at least five of the lads, have a lot more money than we can offer. Whilst we can't compete on money we can compete on team spirit, something which served us well last season and we're looking to push us on again.”

“Every player from last season has committed to next season with the exception of Danny Frost, Tyrone Gay and Leon Henry who are waiting on offers so we will see what happens there, we have given each of them a deadline to make a decision so we can get on with what we need to do. Obviously we'd like to see them stay with us but the way the game is the lads are bound to consider these offers before deciding where they're going to play next season”.

“Ashley Jackson and Captain Alex Peterson have renewed their contracts which is a massive boost as they are huge players for us and I believe this shows we are moving in the right direction."

We also welcome Kai Hancock from Athersley where he scored 32 goals last season.
Hancock has been much sought after this season and has been linked to Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers, Black says “the boy is hungry to succeed, he’s got all the ability in the world and I feel he will improve with us and move onto bigger things”.

Looking ahead to next season Black believe the Evo-Stik First Division North will be tougher than it has been for some time, “I believe South Shields, promoted from the Northern League and FA Vase winners will be the favorites, Scarborough have made a statement of intent already and Glossop's new manager knows the division well, we will look to build on what we have started here and look to have another exciting season”.
