Back to winning ways for the Reds

Brighouse 1 Ossett Town 3

The Reds travelled away to Brighouse Town looking to turn their fortunes round after a run of 6 straight losses.

Grant Black has strengthened the squad with the arrival of Fabian Bailey & Jason St Juste

The Reds have had the squad depleted with Danny South suspended and Captain Alex Peterson out with a fractured cheekbone.

Both new signings are named in the starting line up to face Brighouse who are languishing towards the bottom of the league.

Ossett started the game well and had the better of the early play with the home side having to defend for the first 15 minutes.

Ossett broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when a superb ball from Steve Ridley found Emile Sinclair who turned two defenders and crossed into the box where Jason Yates find himself unmarked as he headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Reds a 1-0 lead.

Ossett continued to press the Brighouse defence with Kai Hancock firing in a couple of shots and Emile Sinclair causing problems for the home defence.

On one of the rare Brighouse attacking moves the Reds failed to clear the ball on two occasions and were made to pay as the Brighouse striker bundled his way into the box before stabbing the ball past Leigh Overton wipe out Ossetts lead and level the score to 1-1 in the 37th minute.

The scoreline remained at 1-1 as the referee blew the whistle for half time.

The second half started with Ossett continuing their dominance and in the 50th minute from a set piece, Issac Assenso picked the ball up 30 yards out and slotted the ball through to Josh Snowden who had made a great run into the area. Snowden fired in a left foot cross and Kai Hancock got in front of the Brighouse Centre backs to head home from 6 yards to regain the lead. 2-1 to Ossett.

Minutes later Kai Hancock was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle reducing the Reds down to 10 men.

Going down to 10 men didn't affect the Reds play and they continued to press Brighouse with Leigh Overton only called upon once to make a save in the second half.

Ossett made sure of the 3 points in the 63rd minute when from a set piece Issac Assenso found himself 10 yards out and completely unmarked as his downward header slipped through the legs of the home keeper to increase the Reds lead to 3-1.

Minutes later the referee reduced the home side to 10 men with the sending off of a Brighouse player after tangling with Issac Assenso.

The score at full time remained 3-1 to Ossett, a well earned & needed 3 points in a game where the Reds played with confidence and rarely looked troubled by the home side.

The next games come thick and fast over the festive period with the Reds travelling to Droylsden on Saturday30th December, kick off 3pm followed by the excitement of a local derby as neighbours Ossett Albion come to Ingfield looking t
